Summer Vacation 2013 - St. Joe's, Michigan

This year we rented a beach house in St. Joe's, MI with our good friends for our summer vacation!  It was a week of beach fun!  It was the first time Audrey's really seen a beach or played in the sand - and she ate it up.  What a cute little cobble stone town with yummy restaurants and ice cream shops and great beaches.  We even snuck away one rainy day and drove around Lake MI an hour and 45mins to Chicago and met Auntie Kristen at the Shedd Aquarium.  Great trip.  Great memories.

The Burb

What could possibly make my once city-living, urban family more suburban than we already have become since moving to Glendale last spring?  An actual Suburban.  That's right folks.......a gas guzzling, 8 seat belts, could tow a semi, Chevy Suburban.  I've been fighting the minivan - I don't know why really, its so darn practical, it just made me feel like such a "mom" (as if the 3 kids didn't do that enough) - and when you have a booster seat, car seat, infant seat, double stroller and 100lb dog to lug around your choices are very, very, very limited.  Enter Suburban.  Isaac calls it the monster truck.  Audrey calls is the BIG car.  They made Maggie take a ride in it likes its an amusement park ride.  Every time I enter a parking garage or crowded parking lot I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack maneuvering this beast.  But alas, it is more room than we could possibly need which I love - I think it might even be a little bigger than my sister's last studio apartment.  It's like a stuido on wheels.

We traded in my beloved Volvo SUV for the beast.  I wish I would have taken pictures of all the junk I removed from that vehicle while prepping to trade it in, like one of my favorite bloggers recently did.  It was really something, embarrasing and hilarious at the same time.  Some of my favorite finds:
  • an emergency diaper changing bag that included size 1 diapers (which Audrey wore for approximately 4 weeks before outgrowing in the spring of 2011)
  • the owners manual for our washing machine - what??!!
  • an entire case of CDs - I haven't listened to a CD that wasn't kids music in probably 5 years
  • 9, NINE, umbrellas
  • Isaac's report card......from 3K
  • and, my very, very favorite......our Elf on the Shelf.  But that wasn't a surprise - I actually knew he was there and have been meaning to get him out and back in the Christmas boxes for, oh, 6 months!
